Barbara Kanegsberg

Barbara Kanegsberg is a recognized consultant and expert in the field of industrial cleaning and manufacturing processes. She is a founder and ongoing developer of modern industrial contamination control.

As president of BFK Solutions, established in 1994, she uses her thirty plus years of experience and expertise in biochemistry, clinical chemistry, analytical chemistry, process development, and failure analysis to assist industry in high precision and general industrial cleaning. Her process development projects include such diverse areas as wafer fabrication, biomedical devices, miniature and seismic protection bearings, and aircraft components. She investigates and resolves product failure issues. Working with suppliers of cleaning agents and cleaning equipment, she develops and tests new products to meet and often exceed engineering, economic, and regulatory requirements. Her clients range from small, family companies to major international corporations. Her legal advisory and expert witness activities include civil, intellectual property, and criminal cases.

Barbara is the editor-in-chief of the acclaimed "Handbook For Critical Cleaning,” 2001, CRC Press; she also contributed several chapters, including one concerned with cleaning processes for critical applications, including biomedical devices. She has conducted numerous seminars and tutorials, both public and for individual companies; and she has well over 150 presentations and publications in cleaning and contamination control, including programs for biomedical and other high-value applications. She is a member of the Joint Service Solvent Substitution Working Group. She delivered an invited presentation at the ASTM F04-sponsored Workshop Addressing Cleanliness Issues In Biomedical Devices, Kansas City, MO, (“Cleanliness and Surface Quality in Biomedical Devices”); and she is a member of ASTM F04.15.17 "Cleanliness Testing Task Force. " She was an invited speaker at the International Thermal Spray Association. She presented a special tutorial covering cleaning, surface quality, and contamination issues for the residents and faculty of the University of Southern California Graduate School of Periodontics. She co-authors a column dealing with surface characterization, contamination detection and contamination control for life science, microelectronic, and other critical applications which regularly appears in Controlled Environments Magazine.

Barbara has been appointed to the University of Massachusetts Lowell Toxics Use Reduction Institute (TURI) Surface Cleaning Laboratory Advisory Committee; and she served on the Editorial Advisory Board of CleanTech Magazine. Barbara Kanegsberg received the 1996 U. S. EPA Stratospheric Ozone Protection Award for her accomplishments in commercial and military process implementation and in regulatory policy research.
Barbara is also President of the Surface Quality Resource Center (SQRC), a not for profit organization. The charter of SCRC includes education and outreach to both industry and to communities impacted by industrial activities as well as with development of high-performance, economically sound, safe, and environmentally preferred processes.

Barbara has a B.A. in Biology from Bryn Mawr College and an M.S. in Biochemistry from Rutgers University.

Ed Kanegsberg

Dr. Ed Kanegsberg is a consultant in manufacturing process development and modification with a concentration in critical cleaning, surface preparation, process design, and failure analysis/resolution.

As Vice President of BFK Solutions, he uses his 35 years of experience in chemical physics and engineering to address production yield issues through process improvement, materials substitution, and component modification. His background is in the design, development, testing, and manufacture of critical precision instruments. He utilizes this background to rapidly and effectively troubleshoot an array of fabrication process problems; he has been known to pinpoint the source of equipment problems more rapidly than the equipment supplier.

He also coordinates the transition of the product from the engineering laboratory to the fabrication facility or factory. His concerns include issues of scale-up, technical training, procedures and documentation, customer requirements (including military requirements if applicable), and regulatory issues. He utilizes his analytical skills in issues relating to intellectual property.

Ed conducts site visits and audits. He is involved in research in environmental policy. His activities include cost/benefit analyses for economic and regulatory applications. Ed specializes in the technical and analytical evaluation that allow optimal resolution of regulatory permitting problems.

Ed is co-editor of the comprehensive “Handbook for Critical Cleaning,” CRC Press, 2001. He also co-authors a column that appears regularly in Controlled Environments Magazine; he specializes in explaining the practical importance and the basis of operation of new analytical technology. His presentations and publications emphasize the physics of general cleaning, critical cleaning, and surface quality.

As a confirmed believer that most of rocket science can be understood by non rocket scientists, he has extensive publications and has conducted scores of workshops, both public and for individual companies as well as for the military. He is a technical adviser, working with all levels of interest and sophistication including technicians, other engineers, and upper management.

Ed has been awarded numerous U.S. and foreign patents. He has a B.S. in Physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in Physics from Rutgers University.

David Kanegsberg

David Kanegsberg, Photographer and Videographer, provides prompt, efficient, creative photographic, video and design layouts. An active photographer for nearly 15 years, David’s background and education in artistic photography allows him to achieve realistic, compelling images in the industrial sector. He works in an efficient, non-invasive manner in your facility or in a studio setting. He also researches and understands the product operation and function; this assures that the product will appear dynamic rather than static. The end results of this effort are visuals that depict the product and process in an informative, accurate, and compelling manner.

David has done photography for commercial product brochures and for poster blow-ups. His videography includes a technical training video for a commercial parts washer. He has done technical photo editing for Litton Industries. His industrial photographs have been featured on the covers of Precision Cleaning,” “Finishers Management,” and “A2C2” Magazines. His design layout activities include brochures and newsletters (printed and electronic) as well as web design.

David has a BFA in photography from Rhode Island School of Design.
